About Us

History of the 16th Avenue church of Christ

The church first assembled together in Sterling during November of 1950. The first meetings were held at the Hubbard home with approximately 10 people. The church met at many different locations (Longfellow Hall, YWCA, ect.) until the 5 acres on 16th avenue were purchased in 1965. The current building was built by members of the church and an open house was held in December 1967.

History of the church

The church of Christ finds its beginning with the first century church, established by Christ Jesus through His Apostles. A study of church history finds that as the church began to develop, it pulled further and further away from the Biblical model established by the Apostles. The church of Christ centers its practices and beliefs on the idea of restoring the church after the pattern of the Apostles.

The church of Christ is built on the foundation that Christ himself laid and is completely independent. Here at 16th Avenue, we try to meet your needs from a scriptural basis. We always seek good judgment using God's desire in any decision that is made, and are open to suggestions that will benefit the congregation. If at any time you have questions there will be a group of Christians ready to assist you.

Christians here at the church of Christ try to use the talent that God has given them to bring peace and happiness to others that we ourselves have found through Jesus Christ.

We believe the Bible to be inspired by God (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21). And we believe that God has instructed us in accordance to the structure of the church; instructions for salvation as well as the worship of the church.

Path to Salvation

For people to be saved in the sight of God they must:

Hear the Word of God (Romans 10:17)

Believe in Jesus as the Son of God (Mark 16:16, John 8:24)

Repent of their sins (Acts 2:38, 17:30)

Confess their faith in Christ (Matthew 10:32, Romans 10:10)

Be Baptized (immersed in water) for the forgiveness of their sins (Matthew 28:19, Mark 16:16, Acts 2:38, Romans 6:4, 1 Peter 3:21)

Live Faithfully (Ephesians 2:8-10, 2 Peter 1:5-7)

Worship

Our worship of God is a reverent and dignified offering of the heart in accordance with biblical guidelines. It is not designed to be for man's entertainment.

Our worship service includes:
